ridgeway surgery

The re-design of this consulting room of the Ridgeway Surgery in Plympton aims to create a space both welcoming for staff and patients, and at the same time functional for use as an office. The traditional curtain that provides privacy for examinations extends and becomes a backdrop for the patient seating area, partly screening the wall shelving. Cupboards and drawer units under the L-shaped fitted desk together with the wooden shelves provide sufficient storage space.

A slatted cedar screen with opening panels conceals the radiator and boxed ducting whilst creating a unified wall surface, the vertical arrangement and relief alluding to a forest of trees. Locally grown cedar has been used for the joinery items, which all have been manufactured and fitted by Tandem. The desk is surfaced with natural linoleum, a hardwearing and userfriendly material.
