Tandem recognised the challenge to improve our living room arrangements in the first meeting and came up with an interesting but simple alternative. We admire the thorough execution, the practical use of suitable, but sustainable materials and the prompt delivery abroad where the furniture was installed quicky and accurately on site. The sideboard has become a gem in our home. It is a pleasure to look at it and use every day.
Georg Stoll, client
The client commissioned Tandem for the design of a furniture solution to replace a collection of various elements that included a tall cupboard for storing crockery and a cabinet used as stereo furniture.
To provide a comparative volume of storage space, the new furniture is composed of two elements: a long, low sideboard with large drawers and a cupboard over part of it, that contains shelving and two small cutlery drawers.
The sideboard is cantilevered off the wall creating an elegant lightness and enhancing the link with the cupboard above. Solid oak has been used for cupboard walls and shelves and for sideboard top and drawer fronts providing a feel of quality and warmth and connecting with the oak parquet flooring and other furniture in the room. Painted surfaces enhance the warm colour of the wood and break up the surfaces thus reducing the impact of the large furniture pieces. The wall behind is painted in matching emulsion tying the group of elements together into one composition.
