Extension Design & Build

This extension to the existing kitchen provides a sun room as a link to the garden with space for an informal dining area. The intention was to create a light, airy dining space with floor to ceiling glazing opening onto a terrace, and a corner window framing views towards a lower terrace and garden pond area.

The plan shape opens up to the main garden and angles away from the existing living room patio doors to minimise obstructing the view and light from this area. The angled geometry of the garden room is extended into the landscape with a corresponding angled terrace helping to integrate the extension into the garden.

The extension is clad in oak, incorporating the thickness of the roof and forming a parapet, giving the new elevations a simple, crisp, unified and elegant appearance. The combination of the weathered timber and slate terrace will further help to make the extension appear as a garden room.
