Why they contacted us
They saw our birch ply funriture at the devon Guild of Craftsmen and thought that our design approach and craftsmanship would suit their project.
What they wanted to achieve
They were nearing the completion of the main building phase of their mews house project in Totnes and needed someone to design and build all the interior elements of the house.
What we did
The main concept was to treat all the elements as pieces of furnirture in their own right which shared a common design language using birch plywood and simple detailing. In tandem with this we advised the client on floor finishes and feature wall colours to create an overall interior design.
The staircase and kitchen on the 1st floor are two of the main elemnts in the house. The stairs are a big storage box that you walk up, with a range of storage compartments inside. The horizontal slatted screens act as guarding to the stairs and maintain an open feel to the space.
All of the kitchen is from birch plywood with a fitted sideboard element acting as guarding to the stairs. We used a 3mm solid surface laminate on birch plywood for the worktop, creating a very attractive and durable kitchen.
Our Involvement
Due to the clients tight budget we offered to have all the parts cnc machined and delivered to site where we worked together to assemble and install the elements. This worked surpisingly well and gave the clients enough confidence and skill to build some of the smaller elements themselves to save money.
